Vanishing Girls-Book Review
Book: Vanishing Girls
Author: Lauren Oliver
Rating: 3/5
Genre: Young Adult
Plot:
Dara and Nick used to be inseparable, but that was before the accident that left Dara's beautiful face scarred and the two sisters totally estranged.
When Dara vanishes on her birthday, Nick thinks Dara is just playing around. But another girl, nine-year-old Madeline Snow, has vanished, too, and Nick becomes increasingly convinced that the two disappearances are linked. Now Nick has to find her sister, before it's too late.
Thoughts:
This was my YA read after many years. The book did not really have a psychological thriller effect to it.
I was pulled in with the opening paragraph about the relationship between sisters, and some places the author does a good job of shedding light on childhood memories of the sisters, but not very compelling.
The pictures and online news snippets were definitely an interesting add.
The ending, well not really sure what to make of it, as it did not help me connect to events that were built up to ending.
Quotes:
“Sometimes people stop loving you. And that's the kind of darkness that never gets fixed, no matter how many moons rise again, filling the sky with a weak approximation of light.”
